Energy Performance Certificates

Energy performance certificates are a legal requirement when selling or letting a property and assess and communicate how energy efficient a property is.

Properties are rated on a scale of A - G, with A denoting the most energy efficient homes. The EPC will also advise as to the impact the home has on the environment, with better rated homes having lower carbon dioxide emissions. According to the Government, the average property will be in bands D - E, and the EPC will also include recommendations on measures to improve energy efficiency.

Property EPCs are produced by domestic energy assessors using standard procedures and assumptions about a household's energy usage levels. This enables one property's efficiency to be easily compared with another of the same type.
